Study Spots On and Around Campus

What are you looking for in a study space? Need absolute quiet, or do you crave social studying with friends? Explore some recommended study spots on and around campus.

A separate list of socially-distanced and sanitized spaces has been created for fall 2020.

Fall 2020 Study Spots

Quiet or Silent Studying

Cudd Hall Lobby

Free coffee and a wide variety of study spots available here. Cozy up with your textbook on one of the four available couches, spread out on one of the two square tables, or enjoy your solo study session in a single chair with a desk attachment.

Howard-Tilton Library–Third Floor

The higher you climb the stairs in Howie-T, the quieter it gets. Study between the stacks or enjoy silent study on the third floor. The library's position across from the Commons and its ground-floor PJ's Coffee ensure you'll have the necessary fuel to power through your work. Printing, scanning, and photocopying services are also available here.

Newcomb Archives & Nadine Robbert Vorhoff Collections Reading Room

Located in the Commons, this space is available for quiet study from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Large windows flood this space with great natural light and their a large tables available for studying. Enjoy the view and peruse the archive's collections on your study break. Make your way downstairs to the dining hall and eat your pre-exam meals. 

Tulane Hillel

Tulane Hillel is offering reservation and walk in spots for studying. Their building has free coffee, tea, and printing daily for students. Not to mention, Rimon which is our farm to table restaurant.

Social or Group Studying

Academic Learning & Tutoring Center

Conveniently located in the A-Quad, make this your pre-exam study spot as you'll have fast access to all your classes. White board tabletops, a hot coffee and tea bar, and free computer services make the ALTC a prime study spot. Single study spaces are also available with a small cluster of tall tables near the windows.

Howard-Tilton Memorial Library– Lower-level Floors & Basement

The library offers many different study environments. Work with a group at the booths in in the Learning Commons or go down to the basement space. The library's position across from the Commons and its ground-floor PJ's Coffee ensure you'll have the necessary fuel to power through your work. Printing, scanning, and photocopying services are also available here.

Lavin Bernick Center

Lots of places to stretch out in the LBC! Grab a snack and a coffee as you snag a seat at a table inside or in Pocket Park. See a full list of there lounges and available study spaces on the LBC's website here. During finals week, you'll be sure to catch some fun, free destress activities in and around here. 

Mussafer Hall– First-floor Lobby, Career Service's Interview & Breakout Rooms, Collaboration Space

Another A-Quad spot! Enjoy studying at the long table, couches, or single desks in the first floor lobby. Career Service's interview and breakout rooms are available for students to reserve, Monday through Friday from 9 am. to 4:30 p.m.  Each room is equipped with a large digital display and a conference table. Reserve a room using this link. Mussafer Hall's Collaboration Space (room 116) is great from group study with its one large digital display, large, moveable whiteboard, two tables, and its two single seat areas, each surrounding a small coffee table. 

Residence Hall Lounges

A great place for more social studying with students who are likely to be in your same classes. Catch up on your reading and catch up with your roommate at the same time. Be sure to motivate and encourage one another, as well as make sure you're each taking care of your mental and physical health (sleeping, eating, taking breaks, etc.)

Outside Studying

Audubon Park

For a peaceful study spot, cross St. Charles and head to Audubon Park. Pack a lunch and a blanket for a picnic-style study session. Enjoy ambient background noise and take a break to feed the ducks, stroll under the trees, or jog or bike.

Reily Center's Social Pool

Work on your tan and your homework at the same time! Weather permitting, bring a suit and jump in for a quick break. See the Social Pool's hours of operation on the Reily's website here.

Coffee Shop Studying

PJ's at Willow & McAlister

Coffee, of course, and the convenience of campus. There's cozy chairs, roomy booths, table space, and printing services available here. 

Satsuma Cafe on Maple Street

Located on the historic Maple Street, get away from campus to enjoy some sweet or savory meals while you work. The Satsuma Cafe is just a six-minute drive or a 16-minute walk from main campus. Sit outside on your study break and daydream you're at a cafe in Paris or anywhere but in the midst of exams. 

Mojo Coffee House on Freret Street

A five-minute drive, an eight-minute streetcar ride, or a 20-minute walk from campus, enjoy cool coffee house at Mojo Coffee House. Stroll Freret Street on your study break.

Gracious Bakery on Prytania Street

Studying is just better with a side of cake or pie. Named one of "America's Best Bakeries" by Travel & Leisure Magazine, drive six minutes down Prytantia to Gracious Bakery and enjoy a made-from-scratch treat while you work. 

French Truck Coffee on Dryades Street

Take a break and sit in a rocking chair on the front porch or sit back and let the shop's fluorescent yellow color brighten your mood. This French Truck location is just a six minutes from campus by car.
