Supplemental Instruction (SI) is an internationally recognized academic support program and has been proven to increase student success for those who engage in the learning process. At Tulane, students see the best GPA outcomes when they attend five or more SI Sessions. Based on traditionally difficult courses at Tulane, SI is a non-remedial approach that offers regular weekly review sessions outside of class in which students:

Regularly scheduled SI sessions are facilitated by trained Peer Tutors — undergraduate students who have previously taken the course and demonstrated academic success in that particular subject area. The Peer Tutor connects with the students who are taking that class for the first time. They sit in on class lectures, take notes, and act as a support system to those currently taking the course. Additionally, the Peer Tutor creates and facilitates follow-up study sessions throughout the week based on the course syllabus, faculty recommendations, the students’ needs, and what’s been going on in the class.
