First-Year Experience

A Tides class at Audubon Park in New Orleans

The First-Year Experience begins when you choose Tulane as your academic home. The First-Year Experience establishes a community within the incoming class by providing common experiences to all first-year students. Newcomb-Tulane College offers first year students common academic experiences and partners with other offices on campus to help ease the transition into college life.

The First-Year Experience supports students’ successful transition to college life.  During the First-Year Experience students are introduced to Tulane’s intellectual community and they will be introduced to many campus resources that will help them to achieve their academic goals. Self-care is also an important part of being successful in college, and throughout their first year students are taught about the impact of self-care and healthy behaviors on their academics as well as their personal wellbeing. The skills students learn throughout the First-Year Experience will support their success throughout their time at Tulane as well as their professional life.
